Overcharged and Underrated
Reviewed by angie oakley, 2007-06-29 I have been to the Sweet Basil three times. It's ok but I've had better. This week I only wanted a bowl of soup, price under $7.00. I had just enough with me to cover soup, tax, and decent tip.
I get a bill for $9.70. Because my friend ordered extra rice with her meal a dollar was added to MY charge. The waiter's reasoning was that I'd gotten two spoon fulls of rice to put in my soup so he charged me.
I was under the impression that if a friend says I can have some of her rice, I'm not going to be charged just for eating it?
I argued with the waiter for some time but he just kept saying, "It's 9.70." I refused to pay it and my friend (who ordered the rice) put up the extra money cause the waiter wasn't budging.
I got home and pulled out my calculator. Soup $6.95, tax .64c, total $7.59. Where is the extra 2.10 coming from? Even with a dollar for rice, it's $1.10 over.
I'm not one to haggle over pennies, but the principle is what upset me. And that's why I am never going back to the Sweet Basil again.
